Beautiful Nauvoo

Yesterday morning we woke up way before the sun and drove 3 hours to Nauvoo, Illinois. Isaac was such a trooper. He never once had a meltdown on the way (the way home he couldn't take it anymore and let it all out the last half-hour). We made plans with our friends the Davis's to meet in Nauvoo for the day. We arrived around 9am and Andrea and Tyler went to the temple while Ryan and Isaac and I wandered around Nauvoo with their daughter, Elise. The first picture is of Ryan standing in front of the Mississippi River (which in and of itself was worth the drive). Behind him is a barge, which he was ecstatic to see floating on the water. The next pic is of Isaac, Elise, and myself by the river. Elise is 2 going on 10. She is absolutely adorable and way too smart to be only 2. She and I enjoyed throwing rocks in the Mississippi for a good 20 minutes before heading off to get an oxen ride. After Andrea and Tyler came out of the temple, it was our turn. They watched Isaac while we got to do a session together. What an amazing building both inside and out. It was nice to be able to have some time with Ryan in the temple. There is a picture of us on the steps of the Nauvoo temple. Isaac was more interested in sucking his thumb than posing for the picture. The next picture is of Ryan making his own rope at the family living center in Nauvoo. Elise wanted to turn the wheel but he had a hard time sharing his job with her. :) The final picture is of our family in front of the Nauvoo temple. Isn't it beautiful? We had just finished eating ice cream at a local shop where we saw the biggest insect of our entire lives on the ice cream shop owner's shirt. Ryan noticed it first but was in too much shock to say anything to him, so I informed him that he had an enormous insect on his shoulder. He grabbed it with his bare hand and threw it in the garbage can. Yuck! It was a Secada bug as big as the palm of my hand. I think Krystal would have passed out at the sight of it. We definitely miss the Utah Potato bugs--the Midwest has some freaky-looking insects!

I can't believe you live that close to Nauvoo. It looks like you had a great time and you look amazing, way too good to have a child of Isaac's age.

About the huge insects, as long as Isaac doesn't start eating them you're ok. My grandma still tells stories about my mom eating two inch cockroaches and rabbit poop. Plus in the mid-west they have lightning bugs (they're my favorite!).
