From the Mouth of My Babes

Ryan and Davis walking downtown in the rain last Saturday.
Happy March! Anyone else glad to see another month of winter behind us? For being the shortest month, February felt really long this year. And the start of another month means we are that much closer to meeting the newest addition of our family---only 12 more weeks! Bring on the third trimester with all it's back aches, heart burn, Braxton Hicks contractions, and rapid weight gain. Oh wait, I've been experiencing all of those for months now! But really, we can't wait for May to get here.

My kids have been saying some really random things lately that might only be funny to me, but I wanted to document them just the same.

During our candle-lit dinner on Valentine's Day, we went around the table and took turns telling each other what we loved and admired about them. When we got to Isaac, he said, "When you are all done, can I tell you what I love about myself, too?"

I have some very generous friends who have recently given me a bunch of clothes to accommodate my growing figure. I was trying on some of the said clothes the other day while Maddie was in my bedroom with me. I didn't think she was paying much attention to what I was doing, but I was wrong. As I slipped on what I thought to be a darling floral printed shirt, she announced, "Ummm, that looks a little bit awkward." "Huh?" I said, thinking she was talking to her baby doll. "Your shirt, it's really pretty and all, but it looks kind of awkward because it's so poofy on top." How could I ignore this unsolicited fashion advice? I looked in the mirror and realized she was on to something, so I promptly changed into a less "awkward" top that got much better reviews.

We were walking in the parking lot the other day when Maddie looked at me and said sincerely, "Don't you just love the smell of this fresh country air?" Pretty sure those words have never been uttered by any human being before or since while walking into Walmart.

From the Mouth of My Babe

We celebrated Ryan's birthday this week--33 big ones.
Isaac: "Mom, is it hard to use your brain when you have a baby in your belly?"

From the Mouth of My Babe

With all the havoc that 40 inches (40!) of snow has reeked on our town, school has been canceled for the past 6 days. With winter break taking up all of this upcoming week, Isaac will have missed school for over half of the month of February (and in turn, will be going to school until the last week of June).

Davis on the makeshift slide created by Isaac.

Maddie loved all the snow until she realized that it was to blame for her not being able to attend her preschool's Valentine's Day party. Then she kept lamenting, "I HATE snow! I HATE it!"

I have given up on trying to convince this boy that the snow on the pavement isn't sanitary. Eat away, little guy.

Donuts for breakfast on Valentine's day. We start the sugar rush early around here.

Later on to celebrate Valentine's day we made sugar cookies and had lunch with some friends. We were lucky enough to have Ryan around for dinner and all 5 of us ate by candle light. It was a lot of fun.
I have mentioned previously that Davis is our little ball of passion. He has been known to tell each of us that he loves us a dozen times a day, even going so far as to say, "Mama, I wuv you more dan ice cweam!" or "Isaac, I wuv you more dan my batman toys!"
On the flip side, if one of us does something that causes us to fall out of his good graces, he is quick to say, "Mama, I so sad! I don't wuv you anymore!" I usually reassure him that I still love him anyway and all it takes  most of the time is a tight hug and he changes his mind.

What our Saturday Looks Like

Watching their dad shovel snow this morning.
Those two bumps in the snow are buried vehicles.

Waist-deep snow on 6 ft tall Ryan. We got 3 1/2 feet of fluffy white stuff in less than 24 hours.

After over an hour of shoveling (and he still hadn't reached the driveway yet!) Deep Deep Deep!

You can spot the antenna of the Corolla if you look close enough.

From the Mouth of My Babe

Davis sporting his new big boy undies.
Isaac, at the dinner table: "Mom, did you use a recipe to make this dinner?"
Me: "Yes, how come?"
Isaac: "I was just wondering. That would have been extra amazing if you had been able to make it without a recipe...but it's still good."

Yesterday before church. 22 weeks and counting!
